Educate Physicians

Physicians play an important role in diagnosing DCD and ruling out other medical conditions. It is possible however, that your physician may have limited experience with DCD in his or her practice.

Provide written resources: You may wish to share DCD: A Flyer for Medical Practitioners with your physician to help them understand your concerns from a medical perspective.

Help your physician understand the impact of DCD on your child: Provide the physician with specific examples of how your child and family are impacted by some of the daily challenges.

Encourage your physician to be an ally for you and your child: A family doctor will likely be in your child’s life for several years, making his/her knowledge and support on DCD very important. A diagnosis might also be helpful in accessing resources and referrals to other health care professionals.
