History

In the past, there were many different labels given to children like Joshua, which was very confusing for parents and professionals.

How children like Joshua might have been labeled in the past:
  • Clumsy
  • Motor coordination problems
  • Fine motor delay
  • Mild motor problems
  • Developmental dyspraxia
  • Sensory integrative dysfunction

In 1994 an international meeting was held in order to agree on a common name. Developmental Coordination Disorder was chosen as the term that would be used by everyone to describe these motor difficulties in children.
